Fatal Accident on SR50
Christmas, Florida. A fatal car accident occurred on Friday night as a driver went the wrong way on State Road 50. Catherine Peterson, 50, of Winter Springs, Florida was driving west in the eastbound inside lane on State Road 50 near Ponchos Lane in Christmas, Florida. The accident happened at approximately 8:00 p.m.. Peterson's SUV crashed head-on into a Honda Prelude driven by Calvin Williams, 33, of Christmas. Williams was taken to Florida Hospital East and later died. Williams was apparently not wearing a seatbelt. The accident cause the Prelude to spin and lift into the air. The Prelude landed on the front end of a Ford Escort that was passing the initial crash. The Escort came to rest with the Prelude resting partially on its hood. The driver of the Ford Escort was Jeffrey Rory Eller, 42, and was taken to Parrish Medical Center in serious condition. Peterson was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition. This accident is still under investigation to determine whether alcohol was a factor.
