Hit and run accidents unfortunately occur on a regular basis. It is believed that some drivers who strike others are afraid to stop after the accident because they do not have a license, insurance, or they have a warrant for their arrest. The victims are often left without the ability to call for help. In situations such as these, it is up to witnesses to call police or an ambulance as appears to be the case here. Notwithstanding that the hit and run driver is responsible for the crash, you should not rely on other people to have insurance to cover your losses even in an accident of this nature. If you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (UM), then your UM coverage will pay for your damages in a case where there is no insurance or the hit and run driver cannot be identified or found. While this may seem unfair, you must protect yourself with insurance in today's society.
