Seffner Man Dies After Car Accident
Sean Ranie Scott, 40, was a passenger in a 1998 Ford SUV that experienced a tire blowout. Scott was ejected from the vehicle as the vehicle overturned. The vehicle was driven by Sharon Souder Scott of Seffner, Florida. The Tampa Bay Times reported that she knew that there was a problem with the tire and had attempted to pull over. Sean Scott is reported to have not been wearing a seatbelt. Scott died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. This accident happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 4 near Mango Road in HIllsborough County, Florida.
This case appears to be another Ford Explorer with a tire blowout problem. It was alleged in the Ford Explorer/Firestone cases that consumers were instructed to use a tire pressure that was inadequate. As a result, the tire tread wore prematurely at the edges and would suffer from sudden tread separation. This oftentimes happened at highway speed when then heat generated by inadequate inflation was the highest but also at the highest risk of injury should such a failure occur.
